Systematic Theology I & II
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course, the first of two in Systematic Theology, is a general introduction to the subject. It focuses on the nature of revelation, the development of the canon, and the doctrines of God, man and Jesus Christ.
COURSE RATIONAL
This course, along with Systematic Theology 2, is designed to give students a basic understanding of those Christian doctrines which are the fundamentals to orthodox belief and practice. A biblically grounded understanding of these teachings is essential to enable believers to recognize heresy and enable them to communicate Biblical truth to those holding other positions.
COURSE GOALS
Cognitive (Knowledge) Objectives
- Understand the importance of Scripture as the basis of our knowledge of God. Particular emphasis is given to the nature of revelation, what is meant by the plenary, verbal inspiration of Scriptures.
- Understand the Bible’s teaching on the Trinity and the character of God.
- Understand the Bible’s teaching on creation and the providence of God.
- Understand the Bible’s teaching on humanity, including the origin and effects of sin.
- Understand the Bible’s teaching on the person and work of Christ.
- Understand non-evangelical critiques of each of the above doctrines.
SPECIFIC COURSE CONTENT
- What is theology?
- Revelation as the source of our knowledge of God.
- The development of the Canon
- The doctrine of the Triune God
- The Doctrine of Creation
- The doctrine of man and sin (anthropology and hamartiology)
- The Nature and Person of Christ

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will focus on the processes of family growth and development as they relate particularly to the local church./1Special attention will be paid to the church’s responsibility for strengthening its family and the process of socialization will be integrated into a practical, working model for the local church./1The course is designed to provide the student with a theological basis for a ministry to the family, as well as a strategy for intervention into the family as a system based on these theological concepts./1Particular attention will be given to the place of the church in a counseling or corrective ministry to families and to the role of the minister in that intervention.

In the Middle East, where cultural, religious, and societal dynamics play a significant role in shaping family life, the Christian community faces unique challenges and opportunities. The Christian Family Studies course is designed to provide students with a deep and nuanced understanding of the Christian perspective on family within the Middle Eastern context.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an introduction to early Jewish and Christian principles and methods for interpreting scripture. It is important for all contemporary Christians to recognize that Christians have attempted to interpret and faithfully follow God’s word since the coming of Christ. Many modern interpretations, both orthodox and heterodox, are rooted in ancient conversations. This course will give the student a wider view of biblical interpretation and hermeneutical practices that help him or her to wrestle with his or her own ideas compared with ancient ones.
COURSE RATIONAL
This course contributes to the student’s understanding of both the history and practice of interpreting the Biblical text according to various hermeneutical principles. It seeks to equips students to more accurately interpret and thus understand God’s word.
